Suncatcher pears - encaustics for kids

I saw this idea on V and Co and couldn't wait to try it.

She has a beautiful step by step tutorial and a very funny explanation of winter that still makes me laugh when I think about it:)

Instead of making leaves we made pears, well I made pears. Semay got stuck at the ironing part - LOVED it, and started ironing every napkin she could find...which led to a word for word play about being Cinderella - woe is her with all her chores - how will she get to the ball on time...

I on the other hand enjoyed the whole process, grating the crayons, mixing the colours, adding some glitter.

After seeing the wax melt and smelling that warm scent I knew I wanted to learn more about encaustics this winter, so I went researching and found these beautiful paintings by Bridgette Guerzon Mills.

Painting with melting wax - the whole process intrigues me. Stop by her blog Contemplating the moon to see more of her work, it will be worth it.

Clay pears

I only get an hour a day to be creative by myself, some days 15 minutes, so I like when I find a medium that gives fast results, is easy to set up, clean up, and can involve the kids in case they mosy over to the studio - as they usually do. But most importantly the creative endeavour needs to soothe my soul and recharge me to be a happy mommy when I return. Painting always does this, crocheting sometimes and now I found another medium - sculpting with clay.

The feeling of molding the clay, dipping fingertips in water, smoothing out rough spots, molding some more completely relaxed me. It was like being at the spa for a whole day.

It dried in 3 days, I glazed it with oil paints and finished my 3 little pears with a twig and copper leaves.

I'm curious, what do you do to recharge? I do enjoy each and every comment

Inspiration - Pears

source

Who knew a bag of pears could inspire me so.

For a week long I was mesmerized by their changing colours, their shape,

but unfortunately not their taste - they didn't ripen right - yuck!

BUT they were beautiful to look at and this week I'll share a bit about what we made because of those lovely pears.

But first I found some lovely inspiration via Etsy and Pinterest...enjoy !
